Technically speaking, the brand-new Harmony Celebration was formed officially in May 2007 in the eyes of its parent organization, Sweet Adelines International. The core of its ranks was pulled from the now-retired, three-time International Champion Ramapo Valley Chorus. But more than one-fifth of this 50-plus women's chorus have joined in the past few years. And now we’re writing a new history book.
Under the direction of the dynamic Scott Brannon, Harmony Celebration intends to continue its tradition of producing highly entertaining shows and performing in the community on a regular basis. We also seek to represent the highest levels of achievement on the competition stage.
During our first visit to the regional contest in April 2008, we were proud to have earned Third Place medals and status as the region's Second Place Midsize Chorus. At the 2009 Regional Contest, by earning a solid A- score of 662, Harmony Celebration earned every award that we were eligible for, including:
- Overall Champion! (in just our second competition as our reconfigured selves)
- Most Improved (we gained 69 points over our 2008 scored)
- First-Place Midsize - Division AA (we had 54 singers on-stage)
- and the Renee Craig Performance award (with the highest showmanship scores of the contest)
We now look forward to singing out at community events, working with exciting coaches, and our weekly rehearsals building harmony and camaraderie as we prepare to take the stage at our first International Convention in Seattle, in October 2010.
